Here at the Disclosure and Barring Service, safeguarding vulnerable groups is at the heart of everything we do. We issue almost 6 million DBS checks every year, providing information to employers and organisations, so they can prevent unsuitable people from working with children or vulnerable adults. We also make complex decisions about whether to bar somebody from getting jobs in certain sectors. This is a pivotal moment in the future of DBS, it is the start of major change and we are looking for people who can hit the ground running. In this role you can be directly responsible for shaping the future of our organisation.

As Board Secretary you will play a crucial role within the organisation acting as principle advisor to the Board and the Executive on all aspects of Corporate Governance.   Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and the Chair you will have a broad portfolio and be responsible for delivering effective and efficient Corporate Governance systems and processes ensuring governance arrangements are fit for purpose and align with the organisation’s visions, values and objectives.  You will be a key contributor to the work of the Board in developing and promoting a continuous cycle of improvement in good governance ensuring that the organisation is compliant and acts in accordance with its statutory/regulatory duties.

With a track record of working with boards the successful candidate will be an important member of our leadership team.  You will be someone who is thorough yet adaptable, committed to high standards and an active team player, politically astute and able to communicate at all levels, but most importantly you share our values.
